PowerWatch-MM is the 2nd generation product from PowerWatch and features a 7" colour touchscreen display. PowerWatch-MM is for use in homes that do not have an existing PowerWatch compatible smart meter.
System Components
- PowerWatch IHD/Gateway: this is the main component of the PowerWatch system that provides a touchscreen display for user interaction and also implements the Gateway Services function. The Gateway Services allow any web enabled device to access the PowerWatch system and monitor energy use in realtime. The PowerWatch IHD/Gateway also provides several modes of wireless communications:
- ZigBee for communication with the PowerWatch SmartSensor
- WiFi communications for connection to a home computer/internet network
- Broadband Network: is a typical home networking setup using a DSL/Cable Broadband Modem/Router connection for internet access and providing Ethernet (wired) and/or WiFi (802.11b/g/n) communication between devices on the home network. The PowerWatch IHD/Gateway is equipped with WiFi communications.
- Web Enabled Devices such as laptops, desktops, iPads, and smart phones can access the Gateway Services built into the PowerWatch IHD/Gateway. These services allow all of the functions provided on the touchscreen IHD to be performed on any web enabled device.
- The HAN/PAN network is a ZigBee network used to communicate between the PowerWatch-MM IHD and the PowerWatch SmartSensor

PowerWatch-SM is a 2nd generation product from PowerWatch and features a 7" colour touchscreen display. It works with capable smart meters to provide energy/cost information in realtime up to the limits of the smart meter.
- ZigBee Smart Energy Profile (SEP) communications for interfacing to smart meters
- The HAN/PAN network is used for communication with smart meters and is typically ZigBee (depending on the smart meter in use).

PowerWatch-DR is a complete power monitoring and demand response solution based on the 2nd generation product from PowerWatch. PowerWatch-DR may be used either with or without a UDR host.
System Components
- PowerWatch IHD/Gateway: this is the main component of the PowerWatch system that provides a touchscreen display for user interaction and also implements the Gateway Services function. The Gateway Services provide all the local monitoring and control intelligence so that communication with the UDR Host is minimized to prevent host communication overloading. The PowerWatch IHD/Gateway also provides multiple modes of wireless communications:
- ZigBee Smart Energy Profile (SEP) communications for interfacing to smart meters
- Z-Wave communications for interfacing to load control devices
- WiFi communications for connection to a home computer/internet network
- UDR Host: this is the utilities demand response host system operator. The UDR Host can communicate demand response information to homes using either the internet or the AMI network.
- The HAN/PAN network is typically ZigBee. It is used for communication with smart meters and/or a PowerWatch realtime sensor.
- Load Controls allow the PowerWatch Gateway to control thermostats, lighting, and appliances
Applications for the PowerWatch-DR
The PowerWatch-DR product may be applied in any application where the consumer wants to automatically control energy use. It can be used either with or without communication to a utility host server.
When communication with a UDR host is not available, then the consumer may switch on or off load controls throughout the consumers home/business based on energy price or time of use. For example: increase the air conditioning thermostat temperature by 2° when the price of electricity exceeds a user defined value.
When communication with a utility host server (UDR Host) is available, additional load control triggers may be used as the PowerWatch gateway can receive demand signaling from their local utility. In this use model, their local utility needs to be capable of hosting the demand response services.
PowerWatch-DR may be used with most Z-Wave based load controls (sold separately) and can be used along side or without another Z-Wave control system.
